Guadalupe, Arizona is a small town of 5,258 people and is .8 square miles in size. Guadalupe is located between Baseline and Elliot roads and straddles 56th st. Guadalupe is home to the Yacqui indian tribe that relocated to Phoenix as refugees after being defeated in battle defending their home from Porfirio Diaz’s army.
Guadalupe was settled by the Yacqui in 1907 after fleeing from their home near the Yacqui river in Sonora, Mexico. Guadalupe was incorporated as a city in 1975. 73% of the population claims Latino heritage and 44% claim Native American heritage.
There are many small shops that sell hand crafts and souvenirs and some great Mexican food restaurants. If you are in the area stop by one of the many small shops and take a look around.
